Hiroshima Chapel / Nikken Space Design

This is a new chapel that opened in a hotel located in the global tourism city of Hiroshima prefecture.

Hiroshima Chapel

This chapel is shaped like a dome 6 m high and 19 m long, constructed of a steel arch frame and a 1 m × 2 m lattice of Japanese cypress. The original “power of flowers” lattice pattern is rendered with the roots, trunk, and leaf apex of a single tree, to fittingly express the heritage of ancestors as well as hopes for the future for the wedding ceremonies held in the chapel. As if the chapel were enveloped by forest, the shadows fall on the floor formed by the sunlight filtering into the dome.
