Bjarke Ingels Group collaborates with Nokken to introduce Softshell, a two-storey luxury glamping tent that merges architectural elegance with outdoor comfort, arriving by mid-2025.

When you think of camping, traditional tents and rugged conditions may come to mind. But the glamping (glamorous camping) trend is transforming outdoor getaways into luxurious experiences. Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), known for their groundbreaking architecture, has now stepped into the world of glamping with Softshell, an elegant two-storey tent designed in collaboration with cabin manufacturer Nokken. Set for release in 2025, this stylish, safari-inspired tent redefines what it means to enjoy nature without sacrificing comfort and sophistication. The Softshell tent combines architectural finesse with practical functionality, catering to the growing hospitality and glamping industry. Measuring 193 sq ft, it boasts a two-storey design, allowing for optimal use of space.

Exterior Design:
The tent features a robust timber frame, paired with a customizable weather-resistant fabric in a range of colors. An insulation layer can be added for colder climates, ensuring year-round comfort. For those looking to enhance the experience, an optional exterior deck with seating transforms the tent into the perfect nature retreat.
Interior Layout:
The ground floor includes:A sofa bed for lounging or sleeping
A compact wood-burning stove for warmth and ambiance
Functional spaces such as a bedside table and storage
The second floor, accessible via a ladder, features a netted loft area. This adaptable space can be used as an additional sleeping loft, cozy hangout, or extra storage.
The Vision Behind Softshell
Unlike standard tents, the Softshell blends the permanence of architectural design with the flexibility of a temporary outdoor solution. As James Van Tromp, co-founder of Nokken, explains:
“With the Softshell, we’re offering the hospitality industry something that stands apart from traditional tented structures. It merges the design sophistication of permanent architecture with the flexibility of a temporary solution, catering to guests who want to be immersed in nature, but with the design aesthetic and level of comfort they would expect in a luxury hotel.”

This innovative approach positions Softshell as an ideal option for glamping resorts, boutique hotels, or even personal use in gardens and private retreats.
Luxury at a Price
With its meticulous design and emphasis on comfort, the Softshell comes at a starting price of $22,500. While steep, the price reflects the quality, durability, and unique appeal of this tent. Preorders are currently available, and deliveries are expected to begin mid-2025.
For outdoor enthusiasts seeking a fusion of luxury and nature, this two-storey glamping tent represents a groundbreaking solution.
